Somatic therapy for beginners

Videos created by Oluwatomisin Samuel Oyinloye

Somatic Swell Counselling works with students from the Canadian youth-focused organization Youthfully. This organization focuses on helping young people navigate the transition from education into their careers and adult life. They provide resources, guidance, and opportunities designed to help youth develop practical skills, explore career possibilities, and make more informed decisions about their future. Their work centers on connecting young people with the knowledge, tools, and support they need to build confidence and take their next steps.

Recently, a Youthfully student named Tomisin created some videos to help people understand what somatic therapy looks like for a beginner, as well as some somatic exercises to try. Tomisin is a Grade 12 student with an interest in neuroscience and psychology. Through his Youthfully internship project, he explored somatic therapy and learned about how our physical experiences can influence our emotions, stress, and overall well-being. This project gave him the opportunity to explore a new topic while developing his research and communication skills. Looking ahead, he hopes to pursue a career in the neuroscience industry and continue exploring the connection between the brain, body, and human behaviour.

My hope is that the videos that Tomisin created for Somatic Swell Counselling will help people make sense of somatic therapy and gain some valuable knowledge and guided techniques. Thank you, Tomisin!
